6 Types Of Solar Roof Mounting Systems: Pros And Cons

Flush Mount:

Rail Mount:

A rail mount system uses a set of aluminum or steel rails installed along the roof’s length. Solar panels are then attached to the rails using clamps or brackets.

This type of system is adjustable, which means that the solar panels can be moved to provide optimal sun exposure. Rail mounts can be used on most roofs, and they’re a good option for installations requiring multiple rows of solar panels.

Tile Mount:

Tile mounts are designed for use on tile roofs. They attach the roof tiles using special brackets, and the solar panels are then attached to the tile mounts.

This system is not adjustable, but it can be installed without drilling into the roof tiles. Tile mounts are suitable for installing historic homes or other buildings with tile roofs.

Shingle Mount:

Shingle mounts are similar to tile mounts, but they’re designed for use on asphalt shingle roofs. They attach to the roof using special brackets that fit between the shingles, and the solar panels are then attached to the shingle mounts.

This type of system is not adjustable, but it can be installed without drilling into the roof. Shingle mounts are a good option for installations on asphalt shingle roofs.

Ballasted Mount:

Ballasted mounts are designed for use on flat or slightly pitched roofs, and they don’t require any penetrations through the roof. They use weights to secure the solar panels to the roof and are an excellent option for installations on roofs that are impenetrable.

Pole Mount:

Pole mounts are designed for use on flat or slightly pitched roofs, and they consist of a pole that is mounted to the roof.

The solar panel is then attached to the pole and used to adjust the panel’s angle. Pole mounts are a good option for installation, and they offer a higher degree of adjustability than ballasted mounts.
